I need to tell you something.
I pretty much Google everything.
A quick hover over my search bar would reveal a list of classic queries such as:
What temperature to air fry chicken thighs?
When will daylight savings end?
Can dogs have avocados? (spoiler alert: no)
Am I saving enough for retirement? (spoiler alert: also no)
Of course there are the more complicated questions that arise when action must be taken and the Internet just won't do. Advice and council from actual people is sought to provide cover when self-doubt attacks. Old friends, even older family and trusted colleagues, all for whom I am incredibly grateful, become confidants. Weighing in on What I Should Do in a given situation, they offer the cloak of a crowd to protect against criticism should it all go wrong.
And when anonymity for my ponderings is desired the Experts stand by patiently, like secret and ready friends. Friends of course that are complete strangers, crowned by others as gurus on health, parenting, career, relationships, what is right, what is wrong and in general What We Should Do.
It all seems pretty convenient, right? A perfectionist choose your own adventure guide to help navigate the pitfalls of life, illustrated with ungrounded assurance I won't completely mess it all up.
Now other than my suspect underlying motivations hinted at above, there is nothing necessarily wrong with seeking knowledge and guidance. But as an adult-saved Christian operating in an increasingly un-Christian world, this legacy habit of looking first to sources other than The Source doesn't get me very far.
Not if the intent is to confidently live out the true, capital-L Life that God has uniquely designed for each of us.
And certainly not with a heart's desire to grow ever closer in relationship with the Lord.
We are Meant to Ask, with permission from the Lord Himself to seek Him directly. (Matthew 7:7)
Asking is our invitation to God to participate in our lives, looking to Him for answers and guidance through:
More than that, asking helps us to better:
So I write here, inspired by the thousands of questions asked in the Bible, seeking answers about anything by asking God about everything.
I pray you are encouraged by what is penned here and hope you will join in by sharing your own questions, comments and prayers.
With lots of love,
Shannon
